Equine Surgeon or Criticalist – Be a Founding Force in a New Equine Hospital

Are you a passionate, motivated, early-career equine surgeon or criticalist looking to help shape the future of equine veterinary care? We’re seeking a board-certified or board-eligible equine surgeon (ACVS/ECVS) or criticalist (ACVECC) to join our rapidly growing practice as we embark on an exciting new chapter—designing and building a state-of-the-art equine hospital.

This is a unique, ground-floor opportunity to be directly involved in every aspect of hospital creation: from layout and equipment selection to setting clinical protocols and culture. We're offering a career—not just a job—with a team committed to innovation, collaboration, and maintaining private, veterinary-led ownership.

About the Position:

  • Immediate need for a veterinarian willing to split time between farm call ambulatory work and involvement in hospital planning.

  • As construction progresses, your role will transition to a full-time, hospital-based position.

  • Input and leadership are welcomed from day one—build the hospital your way, not from a template.

  • Opportunities for buy-in and partnership will be available early for the right candidate—we are firmly committed to remaining veterinary-owned and independent.

  • No non-compete agreement! We want you to choose to stay because we’ve built something worth staying for, not because you're contractually obligated. We believe in this principle so strongly that we helped lead the effort to ban non-competes for veterinarians in Maryland.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • A collaborator and team player who thrives in a supportive, academic-minded environment.

  • Someone who values rounds, journal club, and evidence-based medicine.

  • A veterinarian enthusiastic about teaching and mentoring, including veterinary students, interns, and local 4-H youth, helping inspire the next generation of large animal veterinarians.

  • An individual eager to grow with the practice, take ownership in its mission, and help shape its future.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience and time considerations for studying if board-eligible – Guaranteed base salary with 23% production once base is met

  • Health insurance stipend

  • Continuing education stipend and support for professional development

  • Professional memberships (AAEP, ACVS/ACVECC, AVMA, etc.)

  • 401(k) retirement plan with 3% employer contribution, guaranteed

  • Early opportunity for ownership/buy-in

  • A flexible, supportive, and progressive work culture with strong work-life balance

This is more than a job—it's a once-in-a-career chance to help create something meaningful from the ground up, while working alongside people who love what they do and believe deeply in the future of equine practice.
